Take Action: Getting
Started
Welcome
to The Workplace Connection! Here are some tips to help you get
your business and colleagues involved on designated Air Quality
Action Days.
Using
your lawnmower for one hour can produce as much pollution as
driving your car for 8 hours. By reducing the amount you
use your lawnmower you can help clean the air.
As an Air
Quality Action Days coordinator for The Workplace Connection,
you will receive a fax or e-mail notification by 4:00 p.m. the
day before an Air Quality Action Day is forecast to occur. Notifications
will come from Eastern Panhandle Clean Air Connection.
When you
are notified of an impending Air Quality Action Day, we recommend
taking one or more of the following actions:
| • |
Post copies of the Air Quality Action Day alert in high
traffic areas and/or bulletin boards around your workplace
facility |
| • |
Send an e-mail to alert all staff |
| • |
Send a voice mail to alert all staff |
| • |
Make an announcement over your organization's PA system
|
| • |
Post an announcement on your company Intranet |
In addition,
consider contributing an article or series of articles devoted
to Air Quality Action Days in your company newsletter. Articles
may describe the meaning and significance of Air Quality Action
Days, suggest voluntary actions your co-workers can take to reduce
ground-level ozone and protect their own health, and promote your
organization's involvement in The Workplace Connection. We have
provided some sample articles to help guide you in this initiative.
Now that
you have laid the foundation for successful company-wide participation
in Air Quality Action Days, why not go the extra mile and learn
what else you and your organization can do to reduce ground-level
ozone and improve the air we breathe?
