Using
an electric starter instead of lighter fluid to start your charcoal
grill eliminates the pollutants generated by the lighter fluid.
When an
alert has been issued, individuals can respond in a number of
ways to ensure their health is not adversely affected and to reduce
the pollutants they may generate.
Children
and individuals with existing respiratory problems should restrict
their activities when an orange alert has been issued. Everyone's
health is affected when a red or purple alert has been issued.
Individuals should restrict outside activities whenever possible
during air quality alerts.
The following
actions can be taken to reduce the pollutants created during an
ozone alert:
- refuel
you cars and trucks after sundown
- postpone
mowing your yard until after the air quality alert has passed
- carpool
or telecommute on air quality alert days.
