Our Programs: Ground Freight Partnership
Local ground freight companies
are an integral part of the success of the economy of the Eastern
Panhandle. The contributions of this segment of the economy
include the delivery of good,
Running your lawn
mower for one hour creates about as much pollution as diving your
car for eight hours. Use all gasoline powered machines responsibly.
Besides trucks, this group
would also include much of the heavy equipment used throughout the
region. All of these trucks and equipment are vital to the
economic success of the region.
This contribution and
success does have a price. These trucks and equipment do contribute
to the pollution of the region. Some of these pollutants contribute
to the creation of ground level ozone.
Local trucking and heavy equipment
companies can help keep our air as clean as possible by using their
trucks and equipment responsibly. This would include:
- Eliminating all unnecessary
idling of their trucks and equipment
- Scheduling deliveries
to reduce time and mileage on the road
- Properly maintaining
all trucks and equipment
- Retrofitting trucks
an equipment with new emission reducing equipment
- Keep all tires properly
inflated
The Air Quality Program encourages
all local ground freight and excavation companies to participate
in this program. By participating, these companies can help
reduce the emissions entering our air, help clean up our air and
they will be recognized as helping to lead the way to a cleaner
environment for all residents of the Eastern Panhandle.
In the process, these companies could reduce their fuel costs by
having properly maintained equipment and eliminating unnecessary
idling.
